Description

  • A Messapian Pottery Trozella
  • Height 12 1/8 in. 30.8 cm.
with spreading foot, pear-shaped body, and high rotelled handles, the shoulder painted in reddish brown over a smooth buff slip with floral motives beneath wave and tear drop bands, the same motif highly worn on the reverse.

Condition

misfired in places, body on reverse has large area of abrasion obliterating central design, wear and losses to glaze on handles and one side of rim, part of foot encrusted
