Catalogue Note
A letter from Paul Manship dated November 30, 1961 states: "I think your statuette made by me was a study of a group made for the decoration of a fountain in the Estate of Chas M. Schwab and must date from 1917.
There may be no other copies of this sculpture- I have not seen it for years."
A copy of this letter from the artist will accompany the lot.
A life size version, which was originally cast for Charles M. Schwab's gardens in Loretto, Pennsylvania, is now in the collection of the Brookgreen Gardens in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina.
