A Small Olmec Stone Head pendant, Middle Preclassic, ca. 900-600 B.C.

finely carved with youthful and intense face, the deeply recessed eyes under taut, arched brows, the top of the head with cleave symbolic of the sprouting maize, the narrow ear flanges and nostrils drilled with minute perforations, and pierced at the top and bottom for attachment; in dark green serpentine.
