Description

comprising a figural axe of a prone figure with limbs tightly bent and rounded face, a doubleheaded mace head of canines, the recessed central neck for attachment to a club, and a Costa Rican owl mace head; in basalt and greenstone. 

Catalogue Note

Nicholson (1979: 61, fig. 40), notes the effigy axes are particular to the Colima/ Jalisco area; he cites similar examples from publications as early as 1897.
