Description
of small elegant form, incised and resin painted on each side with a stylized trophy-head with square face and hook-shaped body, circles and rectangles in the field, the lower band with step motif, in rich mustard and red pigments on black.
Provenance
Mr. and Mrs. John Tishman, New York, acquired before 1972
Catalogue Note
Cf. Sawyer (1966: fig. 108,109) for the type. Ceramics from the Middle Paracas in Ocucaje, and in later Cavernas-influenced examples, show a shift towards the trophy-head cult and a more geometric, simplified iconography.
