A Cook Island Ceremonial Adze, South Sandwich Islands

rising from a squared openwork cage beneath a solid round section, the whole decorated with an intricate geometric pattern, and surmounted by an elegant  wedge shaped basalt blade, elaborately bound by braided fibers; aged varied brown patina.
