- Superbe bouclier, Mongo
- 141 cm
- 55 1/2 in
monoxyle, sculpté dans un bois de faible densité, orné de motifs géométriques rehaussés de pigments bleus, rouges et blancs. Sur la face externe, la partie centrale est constituée d'un large rectangle en léger relief, encadré de deux nervures parallèles imitant l'armature des boucliers Mongo en vannerie. La face interne présente une poignée centrale à patine d'usage, brillante.

Good condition overall. Wear consistent with age and use within culture. Some minor losses. A faint water mark (?) at one end, approximately 40cm x 12cm at longest and widest point. Drilled at each end at reverse.

Catalogue Note
La composition abstraite ornant ce bouclier n'est pas sans rappeler le langage pictural développé par Piet Mondrian au début des années 1920. A la manière du néoplasticisme de l'artiste néerlandais, on retrouve ici le système de division de l'espace par de longs aplats rectangulaires de couleurs pures, traversés par des lignes verticales et horizontales. Une réflexion sur le rapport entre la forme, la couleur et l'espace.
