monoxyle, la poignée cylindrique portant le personnage agenouillé, les membres raccourcis mettant en valeur le buste étiré et la tête puissante. Conformément aux canons de beauté exprimés dans la statuaire Makondé, le large visage au front ample offre des traits concentrés s'étirant sur toute la largeur de la face, très délicatement modelés, la lèvre supérieure ornée d'un labret. Le visage et le corps sont parés de scarifications linéaires dessinant des motifs géométriques, gravés avec une extrême finesse. Le très beau galbe des formes, aux courbes tendues, est accentué par la patine sombre, satinée, du bois dur.

cf. Lisboa (1985 : fig. 150-151) pour deux bâtons cérémoniels anthropomorphes très proches, probablement de la même main, acquis avant 1876 et conservés au Museu da Sociedade de Geografia, à Lisbonne (inv. 14860 et 15135).

Selon Carvalho (in MAAO, 1989 : 103), ces bâtons cérémoniels, réservés à l'usage exclusif des chefs, étaient sculptés par couple, le buste d'homme tenu dans la main gauche, celui de femme dans celle de droite.
