de forme rectangulaire, montrant sur sa face un décor géométrique. Les lignes verticales en zigzag encadrent deux cercles blancs sur fond noir, entourant les marques des attaches servant pour la poignée, au revers. La partie supérieure est renforcée par une ligature en rotin caractéristique. Patine d'usage, ancienne.

Good condition overall. Wear consistent with age and use within culture. Three major cracks in the middle of the shield. Some rattan missing.

Catalogue Note
Selon Beran et Craig (2005 : 147), ce type de bouclier de guerre était décoré à l'origine d'une touffe de plumes de casoar, fixée au sommet comme sur la plupart des boucliers de cette partie des Hautes Terres orientales. Le décor géométrique caractéristique, composé en général de lignes verticales et horizontales, ou de zigzags comme ici, pourrait dériver de motifs anciens observés sur les pétroglyphes de la région.
