mindja, de forme rare, à cinq dents, sculpté dans le tibia d'un oiseau casoar, la partie supérieure entièrement gravée de motifs curvilignes et d'un visage grimaçant aux yeux percés, cernés de cercles concentriques. Trous de suspension sur le bord externe.

Catalogue Note
Malgré l'impression offerte par l'irrégularité de sa forme, le peigne est complet : le bord est délicatement crénelé et percé de trous de suspension servant à y attacher des ornements aujourd'hui disparus. Le visage anthropomorphe gravé serait une représentation de nGwaalndu, l'esprit des ancêtres. Symboles de prestige, les peignes de ce type étaient portés, selon Friede (2005 : 135), par les jeunes guerriers Abelam avant la bataille, afin d'être investis de la force magique de l'objet. cf. Hamson (2007 : 49) pour un exemplaire de taille et de style comparables provenant de l'ancienne collection Sam et Sharon Singer.
