Lloyd Goff, one of the "Dallas Nine," an influenital group of regional Texas artists in the 1930s, was a recipient of a Tiffany Foundation Fellowship. The present lot stems from this Fellowship.

A related Goff work recently surfaced at Heritage Auction Galleries, Saturday, December 2, 2006, Lot 36311. The painting depicts Laurelton Hall during the Great New England Hurricane of 1938 and was exhibited at the 1939 Worlds Fair.
