Catalogue Note
On February 1st, 1966 Paco Rabanne presented his first official collection at the Hotel George-V in Paris. The twelve 'unwearable dresses made of contemporary materials' as Rabanne called them caused a sensation and a scandal in the world of fashion -a 'plastic bomb' as Le Figaro put it- and brought Rabanne world fame. In the decades to follow, the unconventional designer would further experiment with unusual materials to create fashion, stating: 'I am only interested in the research of new, contemporary materials. Shapes do nothing for me. Who needs a new tailor?'
