Condition

The work is on wove paper which has been laid down onto a piece of board. The sheet undulates slightly across the surface. There are artist's pinholes in the upper corners. The bottom edge is slightly worn. There is a horizontal crease running across the centre of the sheet and scattered smaller creases in the lower left and right quadrants. The paint surface is in good overall condition. There is no sign of retouching under ultra-violet light. Held beneath glass and presented against a white board in a wooden frame.

Painted circa 1961. Frost made a series of lithographs after the present work and the design became the basis for a Royal Mail commemorative stamp in 2001.
