Condition

The canvas is in good overall condition. There are two small areas of craquelure in the lower left quadrant. There is a tiny spot of paint loss along the edge of the work in the lower left corner and another tiny spot in the lower right quadrant. There is a small area of paint flaking in the lower left quadrant. There is a tiny spot of surface matter in the lower left quadrant although this may have been the intention of the artist. There is no sign of retouching under ultra-violet light. Held in a wooden frame and presented in a canvas slip.

Catalogue Note

The present work was painted at Craxton's house in Crete between 1992-1993. The artist described his intention for the work to express a 'poetic language free of naturalism'.
