Condition

The work is on wove paper which has not been laid down. The sheet undulates slightly across the surface. There are artist's pinholes in all four corners. The edges of the sheet appear slightly stained. The surface of the sheet is in good overall condition. Held behind glass in a simple rectilinear frame.

Catalogue Note

Bomberg painted a number of self-portraits during the 1930s. The resultant works, from large scale oils to smaller sketches, convey his outstanding skill both as a draughtsman and as a portraitist.
