Condition

The board, which is inherently uneven, is in good overall condition on both sides. The thick paint surface on 'Cyclamen' is in good overall condition. On 'Paris Light' there is scattered craquelure, flecks of paint loss and surface dirt across the surface. Examination under ultra-violet light reveals scattered areas of small spots of retouching in all four quadrants on both sides of the board. Paris Light is behind glass. Presented within a cream slip in a wooden frame.

Catalogue Note

Paris Light is a depiction of Nicholson's flat at 48 Quai d'Auteuil circa 1933-1934. Nicholson has chosen a view point underneath her glass table so that the shadow of a vase of flowers on the table is cast onto the ceiling.

We are grateful to Jovan Nicholson for his kind assistance with the cataloguing of this lot.
