Catalogue Note
Susie Honnor was a great friend of Winifred Nicholson's who lived in an annexe to the artist's house at the end of her life. Ms Honnor helped Nicholson stage the 1979 exhibition at LYC Museum. Winifred Nicholson gave the present work to Ms Honnor on the opening night of its exhibition at the LYC Museum in Cumberland in 1979 in return for a shawl Ms Honnor spun and knitted.
We are grateful to Jovan Nicholson for his kind assistance with the cataloguing of this lot.
A new book about Winifred Nicholson's painting is being prepared by Christopher Andreae to be published by Lund Humphries in 2009, endorsed by Winifred Nicholson's Trustees. There are paintings which have been lost sight of, and we ask owners of pictures by Winifred Nicholson to contact Christopher Andreae in confidence: c/o Sotheby's, 20th Century British Art Department, 34-35 New Bond Street, London.
