Condition

The floorboard shows various signs of damage and age although this appears to have been the artist's intention. There is a split to the floorboard in the upper left corner where a nail has been hammered through it. The top edge of the floorboard is rough and has some losses. The surface of the floorboard is uneven and pitted in places. There are scattered tiny holes which suggest the existence of woodworm at some point. The paint surface is similarly uneven in areas across the surface, particularly across the top edge and to an area in the upper right quadrant. The appearance seems to be in keeping with the artist's intention for this work. There is no sign of retouching under ultra-violet light. The floorboard has been mounted onto a thick piece of board which has been attached to a thin piece of board covered in canvas.
