Condition
The sheet is not laid down. It unudulates very slightly at the extreme edges between points of adhesion to the mount. There is a 4cm. patch just below the centre point where the sheet has been rubbed - presumably by the artist himself - resulting in the top surface of the paper to be scuffed and revealing a whiter layer beneath. There is a light crease across the upper left corner of the sheet, another light crease at the left end of the lower edge and an arc of light creasing in the lower right quadrant, but the sheet is otherwise in good original condition.
An area of slight yellowing discolouration is visitble upper right towards the top of the tower.
Presented float mounted behind glass in a simple black wooden frame in good condition. Ready for the wall.

Catalogue Note
This drawing is to be sold with a letter from the artist dated 22nd December 1953, in which he states:
Vogue N.Y. sent me a copy in which my drawing of San Gimignano is reproduced (I like that drawing!) I noted with some amusement the scrabble or scuffle in the centre is not in your reproduction (without that the drwg never would have been made)
