Description

  • 28.4.68
  • acrylic on canvas
  • 189.5 by 76cm., 114 by 30in.

Provenance

Waddington Galleries, London, September 1987

Condition

The canvas is unlined. It is somewhat loose on its stretcher but appears to be providing a good sound support. The paint surface appears to be sound throughout, the lower section retaining some very good passages of impasto with peaks intact. A very slight indent near the lower left corner does not appear to have damaged the paint surface. Various media splashes are visible lower left and the paint surface is somewhat dusty - as such the work would benefit from a light surface clean. Please note that the reproduction in the catalogue bears little resemblance to the original where the colours are far more saturated, particularly in the lower section which is a deep orange rather than yellow. The vertical strip running down the lower left side is a dark plum colour in the original, while the red strip at the right and lower edges is a deep crimson.
