Description
- Eugenio Lucas Villamil
- Fiesta Taurina (A Day in the Country)
signed Lucas hijo l.l.
oil on canvas
- 58 by 79cm., 23 by 31in.
Provenance
José Camins, Madrid; thence by descent to the present owners
Condition
Original canvas. There may be a few cosmetic retouchings though a proper reading of this is hindered by a fluorescing varnish layer. There is a small hole (½ cm.) to one of the trees to the far right of work and another pinhead sized hole with some surrounding pigment loss towards the centre of the upper edge. There are a few further small spots of pigment loss elsewhere. Some of the artist's pigments appear to have contracted creating a textured surface most notably in the upper background of the work. The work also has an uneven varnish layer and would benefit from some light restoration. Held in a decorative partially ebonised plaster moulded gilt wood frame.
