The firm was located at 8, Rue Charlot, Paris, in 1860, and was later known as Lemerle-Charpentier circa 1870 to 1890. They exhibited at the Expositon Universelle of 1878 in Paris, clock garniture as in the present lot and others decorative art objects, but the star piece of their stand was an impressive example of Piat's grande horloge, an example of which was sold Sotheby's, New York, April 26, 2006, lot 105, for $329,600.
