Catalogue Note

This accomplished marble is a late work by Lecointe who made his debut at the Salon in 1850. His works are rare on the market. However, a similar marble figure entitled Le Baiser sold Sotheby's, London, lot 118, 22 November 1994, and the present model of the Birth of Venus, of exact same size, was sold, Sotheby's, London, November 16, 2006, lot 89, £ 27,600.
