Catalogue Note
From Wisinger-Florian's diaries, the present work with which, by her own account, she was very pleased, can be dated to the spring of 1889.
Abbazia, at the time part of Austria-Hungary, is a seaside resort fifty miles southeast of Trieste on the Istrian peninsula in modern-day Slovenia.
A smaller painting depicting the central figure was sold at Wiener Kunstauktionen on 15 April 1997.
We are grateful to Mag. Bärbel Holaus-Heintschel for her assistance in cataloguing this work.
