Original canvas. There are some scattered lines of infilling visible under ultraviolet light, notably to the left and right of the girl's chin, in her hair, a line running along the right edge of the work and another towards the top of the work, both in the background. Apart from some signs of faint craquelure, the paint surface is in good overall condition. The colours are brighter than they appear in the catalogue illustration and there is a greater contrast between the girl and the background. Held in a plaster moulded gilt frame.

Catalogue Note
Harlamoff's works were extremely popular both during his lifetime and since. Foremost among them, it is his charming portraits of pretty young girls that remain the most actively collected, of which the present work is an excellent example. Glancing downwards, the girl gently smiles to herself absorbed by her own thoughts.
