Catalogue Note

Painted in 1928, the present work bears testimony to Pilny's loyalty to his favourite subject. Executed in a rich palette capturing the light effects of the setting sun, An Odalisque in the Desert is a particularly virtuoso representation of the recurring theme of the desert slave market in Pilny's oeuvre.
