The following condition report was kindly provided by Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc.: This painting is most likely quite dirty. The canvas has been lined using wax as an adhesive and the paint layer is stable. Under ultraviolet light no retouches are strongly visible but hints of darker color may be restorations in the darker colors of the horses particularly, and may correspond to broad retouches. For instance is the area above the signature, is this area retouched or is it original? Although it is hard to say, if the picture were to be cleaned, it is likely that some restorations will be removed and these areas will be in need of some attention.
