Catalogue Note
The present terracotta is an outstanding piece of virtuoso modelling and casting. It is not clear exactly what role Desbois had in Carrier-Belleuse's busy studio in Montmartre, but it is clear from this terracotta, which surely dates from early in his career, that Desbois was a highly accomplished modeller capable of dazzling naturalistic effects.
