Catalogue Note
The Order of Poor Clares, or ‘Second Order’ of Saint Francis, was founded for nuns, c. 1212-14, by Saint Clare (1194-1253). The present manuscript comprises the second rule of the Order, as sanctioned by Innocent IV in 1247, in Italian translation, beginning on fol.2v, “Innocentio vescovo servo delli servi …”, in 12 chapters, followed by the testament of Saint Clare on fol.24v, “Al nome de dio, Amen …”, and a prayer in the name of Clare, “ancilla de cristo et Piantolina del beatissimo patre nosto Francisco”, ending on fol.34v, “… siate conesso, Amen, Finisce la regula de le monache de sancta Chiara”.
