Catalogue Note
The IWC-Porsche Design 'Ocean' was first launched at the 1983 Basel Fair. Early examples were conceived and designed for the German Navy. Ultimately, the case and movement would be re-designed for civilian use.
This is an unusual wristwatch, partly because of its sleek oversized design and partly because it is made of titanium, a light metal only occasionally used in watches. This is an ideal metal to use in a diving watch, as it does not add much weight to the wrist and it is incredibly non-corrosive, which is helpful in salt water usage.
