Catalogue Note

For a note on so-called 'Paul Newman' models, see lot 155 in this sale.

This particular example features a steel bezel engraved and calibrated for 300 units per hour. Such bezels appeared on the first examples of the Ref. 6239 until it was replaced not long after its release by a bezel calibrated for 200 units per hour.

For a similar example of this model, Ref. 6239, with a slightly different dial, see Skeet & Urul, Vintage Rolex Sports Models, p. 112.
