Catalogue Note

Rolex first released this model, Ref. 5513, in 1962. Early editions of this reference such as the present model featured the so-called 'pointy crown guard', the metal protection on either side of the crown. In later models, Rolex would slightly alter the design so the crown guard would have a rounded end. These early examples also feature a dial with gilt lettering and outer tracking rail road. Such 'gilt' dials are considered more desirable and rare.

Serpico y Laino was the most important watch retailer in Caracas, Venezuela, and one of the most active watch sellers in South America. Their signature appears on many of finest Swiss watch brands of the 20th Century, including Patek Philippe. Their signature on a Rolex watch is rather unusual.
