    The Wakes has come to Lees/ Last evening George and I saw/ Big Bertha puffing her way up/ the hill to Lees. Mother said if/ you go to bed early, you can stay/ up later.  Tomorrow all the/ round-a-bouts will be up and/ working.  The next night Father/ came home early and off we went./ Mr Taylor (the Bank Manager) came with/ Miss Carter (who wore pink) and whilest/ they talked together, Father lifted George/ up to look inside Big Bertha.  I wanted/ to look, but Father said I was a girl and/ girls didn't like engines and the year was/ 1904
