the quadrehedral shaft with two figures carved in high relief, each with tensely bent legs, full abdomens and typical compressed features, the whole surmounted by an abstract simian figure of openwork design with a knob at the back; '172X' in pigment on the base; fine smooth, blackened patina overall.
