Catalogue Note
Executed between 1910 and 1912, the offered lot is a brilliant example of Baranov-Rossiné’s ability to capture the rhythm of dance in two-dimension. The artist combines his trademark slicing of geometric forms, and bright, fauvist tones against a dark background to represent the dancing figure as the sum of his movements. The dynamism of this work recalls the large-scale masterpiece Nude Dancers from 1912-13 (fig.1) sold at Sotheby’s New York in 2005.
