2. This study was acquired by V.E.Napravnik at the exhibition of studies by M.V.Dobuzhinsky and E.E.Lanceray in March 1915. The commission of the Russian Museum named in honour of Alexander III later approached V.E.Napravnik wishing to acquire this very same study. At the behest of E.E.Lanceray, V.E.Napravnik gave up the first study (which may have not been executed at the front but on his return to Petrograd) to the Russian Museum, and the artist drew a duplicate version for him, which turned out better than the first.
