Prince Paul Troubetzkoy Russian, 1866-1938

It is often forgotten that Troubetzkoy began modelling animal sculptures in the mid-1880's before he achieved celebrity as the international society portraitist of the beau monde. Indeed it was Troubetzkoy who started the young Rembrandt Bugatti on his career as an 'animalier'.  This reclining lion model is rarely seen on the market and is handled with a characteristically spontaneous and sketchy approach.
