Catalogue Note
The series The Game consists of nine works which incorporate the same photograph of a pre-Revolutionary general and his wife into familiar scenes from current events, such as standing on a podium to accept a sports medal for the Soviet Union or sitting respectfully behind a pair of microphones at a news conference.
In 1988 the entire series was requested for the exhibition I Live - I See: Artists of the 80s in Moscow in the Kunstmuseum Bern, Switzerland however the offered lot was not granted an export paper and could not be exhibited. The 8 remaining works were later acquired for the Ludwig Collection, Cologne.
