Catalogue Note

This accomplished portrait statuette represents Mrs. Mary Joaquina de Brabant, née Clark. Born in 1870, the daughter of U.S. copper industrialist William Andrews Clark Sr., senator for Montana, she married in 1924 Marius de Brabant, of the Union Pacific Railroad Co., and died in New York in 1939.  The Clarks were among Troubetzkoy's prominent patrons of the 20's.  Curiously enough, none of the several casts of this portrait-statuette are dated.
