each panel decorated with pierced upper section in the form of a fan backed by green silk, the veneered base resting on short tapering feet

Catalogue Note

The sober elegance of this screen is inspired by English furniture of the late 18th century.  A nearly identical 18th century screen, (fig.1), is in Elizavetta Alexievna's room in the Pushkin town Museum, formerly Tsarskoe Selo, illustrated in N. N. Sobolev, The USSR Academy of Architecture., Interior decoration Cabinet, Furniture Measurements, vol. I, Moscow, 1940, p.41.
