Catalogue Note

Although the service has not been identified by name it is believed to have been commissioned towards the end of the reign of Nicholas I.  Occasionally pieces from this service come on the market, for examples see: Sotheby's Russian Sale, 6th December 1989, lots. 423, 424 and 426. It is believed that some are in the collection of the Topkapi Palace in Istanbul.
