Schetinin, the reverse with gilt acanthus leaf ornament on indigo ground, the bulbous lower body with burnished foliate and shell motifs, flanked by four scroll handles, the tapering indigo stem on square gilt base, with blue Imperial cypher for Nicholas I

The porcelain artist Schetinin worked on some of the finest porcelain produced by the Imperial Porcelain Manufactory. This includes one of the landscapes on the magnificent pair of porcelain vases sold in the most recent Sotheby's Russian Sale in Bond Street on 1st December for £1,520,000.
