Condition

The canvas has been relined. On close inspection there are areas of minor craquelure and there is one small repaired damage near the upper edge, towards the left (just visible in the catalogue illustration). Otherwise the paint surface appears to be in good stable condition. Examination under ultraviolet light reveals a thick varnish and evidence of minor retouchings in the aforementioned area, a small area lower left and a few minor flecks on her left ear and her neck. The colours are brighter and warmer than is suggested by the catalogue illustration. Held in a decorative moulded gilt frame in good condition.
