Signed very faintly with ukibori characters Nitto ....Aki ....Goho saku (?)
Boxwood, the eyes of pale amber with horn pupils
3.8cm., 1 1/2 in.

The toad clambering over one end of a bamboo section which has been partly eaten by worms and to which are applied pine needles in ivory and tortoise-shell.

Catalogue Note

Although Mitani Goho is recorded as an Iwami artist, he apparently lived in Aki province at the begining of the 19th century.
