The God of wisdom is rendered in ivory and seated on an ox, holding a tama, the ox is recumbent and staring impassively ahead, a thin halter rope runs from its nose and trails up across its back.
Catalogue Note
The artist is a member of the Hojitsu School and is better known for his ivory Manju pieces with decoration rendered in sunk relief. He occasionally signed Ikkosai only, as in the present example.
