Description

  • Signed in a rectangular reserve Tomotada
  • Ivory, the eye pupils inlaid
  • 4.4cm., 1 3/4 in.
The hound, probably of European origin, lies with its head lowered as it licks a clam shell held in its fore paws.  Its body is stretched out and its ribs and vertebrae are clearly defined beneath its coat.  It wears a knotted collar around its neck.  The hairwork is finely rendered with short incised strokes and partly stained black.
