Catalogue Note

An inscription records that this painting of Shri Sukhavati Lokeshvara was donated by Maharjan Cikidhika and his large family from the great city of Suvarnapranali of the Kathmandu Valley in samvat 950 (1612). It is possible that the writing of the first numeral, 9, is a variant type and the painting may be of a later date, perhaps 1812 as suggested by Kreijger. It is also possible that the painting is a replacement paubha and the inscription of the original reproduced verbatim.
