Catalogue Note

This may be The Lonely Lake in Achill, a picture which Henry included in his 1917 Belfast exhibition. Reviewing that show the News-Letter (15 March 1917) commented that it was ‘almost ¼ monochrome … with a lyrical impulse which gives it great distinction’, a description that suits this composition. The Lonely Lake in Achill is numbered 431 in S. B. Kennedy’s forthcoming catalogue raisonné of Paul Henry’s oeuvre.
