Catalogue Note
Executed in 1903, The Pirate was recorded by the Freeman (5 September 1903) who noted 'a fearful - looking figure is stepping up the poop stairs of a ship. His slouched hat hides a bandaged forehead...his hands are bound behind him...he has been taken prisoner, and is about...to 'walk the plank''.
