Catalogue Note
Osborne visited the Netherlands several times during the late 19th century and appears to have first visited Amsterdam in 1894. He appears to have returned in 1895 when he painted at Zaandam and again in 1896, when he was painting with his friend Walter Armstrong. The present work would seem to have been executed on his fourth trip to the area.
